Quick Guide to search the GPO Monthly Catalog

This database allows you to search for United States government publications published from 1976 - current.  Prior to this date you will need to consult the print indexes located in Documents Reference.

 

1.  At the Reference computers, click on the Library Catalog & Other Resources icon, or from any Internet ready computer, go to http://library.lamar.edu/.

 

2.  Click on the Find Articles and More link.

3.  Click on Select an Electronic Database by Title

 

4.  Enter your barcode from the back of your Lamar ID. Click on Submit.

For problems or questions regarding your barcode, check at the Circulation Desk

 

5.   Click on GPO Monthly Catalog.

 

6.   Click in the Search for boxes and enter your search term or terms.

            Sample Searches:   Keyword: economics AND United States

                                                Keyword phrase: "world fact book"

            Note:  Use the drop down boxes to change the search from Keyword to other search types (ie. Author, title, etc.)

 

7.  Click on Search.   You should receive an appropriate list of items.

8.   Click on the underlined title of the item to get more information. The full record will display. Or click on Detailed Record (at the top of the page in the blue tab).

9.   If Gray Library owns a copy you will see   LAMAR UNIV indicated in the record. Check the library catalog to get the call number for the item in our library.

10.  If the record indicate we do not own the item check with the Documents Librarian to make sure we do not have it. (A portion of our collection is not cataloged). If we do not have it you can request it through Interlibrary Loan.

11. To do an Interlibrary Loan request use the electronic form available on the library home page.

12.  You can use the List of Records link to return to the list of records. Use the arrows to move to the previous or next records.

Limiting Search Results (reduce the number of records retrieved):

Year allows you to select a date range ie 2000 - 2003

Document Type allows you to select from Book, Serial, Map, A/V Media

Marking Records (to print or email)

Click the box next to the entry number to mark selected records to print or email.

Click on Marked Records to have a continuous display of records.

Once you have emailed or printed them, click Clear Marks to clear your marks.

Printing Records

Click the Print icon at the top of the page to print the record

Click Okay when prompted to print or click Print on your browser to print the record

Click on Return to return to the record or list of records.

Emailing Records

Click E-mail to e-mail a copy to yourself. There is no cost.

Type in your email address and click on Send to send it. You should receive a confirmation stating your email was sent.

Click on Return to return to the record or list of records.
